Seattle Neighborhood Spotlight: Crown Hill

The Crown Hill neighborhood sits comfortably between Greenwood and North Beach / Blue Ridge. It is a comfortable residential area in the heart of North Seattle offering a peaceful retreat from the hurried bustle of city life, while still offering easy access to everything there is to love about Seattle.

Crown Hill Boundaries

The northern border of Crown Hill runs along Northwest 105th Street from 15th Avenue Northwest to 8th Avenue Northwest. The border follows 8th Avenue Northwest south to Northwest 85th Street, right next to Chuck’s Hop Shop, before turning west all the way to 21st Avenue Northwest From there, it runs north to Northwest 90th Street, where it goes east along Soundview Playfield to 15th Avenue Northwest and then north to reconnect with Northwest 105th Street.

Crown Hill History

Crown Hill started as the Crown Hill Cemetery at the request of public officials in Ballard. It took a little longer for living people to move in, however. By World War II, the population began to grow rapidly, and more housing was needed throughout the area. As the cemetery was its only inhabitant, Crown Hill had plenty of room available for development. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, the population began to grow again. This spurred the construction of many of the neighborhood’s condos, townhouses, and apartment buildings.

Restaurants and Bars in Crown Hill

Crown Hill residents are just a walk away from dozens of restaurants and bars. And as Crown Hill is still well within Seattle, it’s just a short drive to any other neighborhood. A few landmark locales to grab a quick bite or a succulent meal include Flintcreek Cattle, The Thirsty Fish, Lamplighter Public House, and Wild Mountain Cafe.

Things to Do in Crown Hill

While Crown Hill is mostly residential, it does plant you right in the middle of the action taking place in the surrounding neighborhoods. It keeps you in the mix with countless options for fun sports bars, chic cafes, art shows, concerts, and more.

Crown Hill has more of a suburban vibe than Ballard or Greenwood, and even includes three parks: Baker Park on Crown Hill, Crown Hill Glen, and Crown Hill Park. Whether you want to read under the shade of your favorite tree,  or find a new trail to run, the parks have plenty to offer. For more urban entertainment, you’re only a short walk away from any one of the countless options Seattle has to offer.
